This policy explains what information England Tourism Guide (englandtourism.org) collects when you use the site, why, and what choices you have. It was last updated on 2 September 2026. The site is operated from the United Kingdom and this policy is written to meet the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and the EU GDPR for visitors in the European Economic Area.

What we collect and why

Reading the site

You can read every guide on this site without creating an account or giving us any personal details. There are no comments, no user accounts and no newsletter.

Server logs

Like almost every website, our hosting provider records standard server logs: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser type and the referring page. These are used to keep the site running and secure, and are kept for a short period by the host before being deleted. Our legal basis is legitimate interest in operating and protecting the site.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people read, how they arrive at the site and roughly where in the world they are. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects your IP address (which Google truncates), device and browser details, and the pages you visit. We do not use it to identify you personally and we do not join it with any other data. Google’s own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with Google’s browser add-on.

Advertising

The site is funded by display advertising served by Google AdSense. When adverts are being served, Google and its certified advertising partners use cookies and similar identifiers to show adverts and to measure them; this can include personalised advertising based on your visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies is described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and you can control personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com. Adverts are not yet live on the site as this policy is written. When they are, visitors in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland will be shown a consent message before any advertising cookies are set, and will be able to change that choice at any time. We will update this page when advertising starts.

The contact form

If you use the contact form, the name, email address and message you enter are emailed to the editor so that we can reply. They are not stored in a database on the site, not added to any list, and not shared with anyone. We keep the email for as long as the correspondence is live and then delete it. The legal basis is your consent, given by sending the message, and our legitimate interest in answering it.

Cookies

Cookies in use on this site fall into three groups. Strictly necessary cookies may be set by the site’s caching software so that pages load correctly; these do not identify you. Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics as described above. Advertising cookies are set by Google AdSense and its partners once adverts are live. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the site will still work, though adverts will be less relevant.

Links to other sites

Our guides link to official sources such as GOV.UK, National Rail, Transport for London, English Heritage and the websites of individual attractions. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for how they handle your data. Images embedded from Wikimedia Commons are served from our own site, not from Wikimedia’s servers.

Children

The site is written for adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 16, and the site has no features that ask for personal details beyond the contact form.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to our processing it, or ask for a copy in a portable format. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is a contact-form email, but the rights apply regardless. Send any request through the contact page and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local data protection authority if you are in the EEA.

Changes to this policy

If we add a feature that changes what we collect, we will update this page and change the date at the top. We will not apply a new policy retrospectively to data collected under an old one.
